Indulge your passion for nature and the great outdoors with a fantastic staycation honeymoon.

Choosing a honeymoon destination can be one of the hardest parts of wedding planning. One way to do it is to look at what you and your partner both enjoy and are interested in, then use that as your springboard.

If nature is your passion, you may think you must travel to South Africa for a safari or scuba diving in tropical oceans. However, if you’re keen to stay a bit closer to home, you’ll be thrilled to know that the British Isles offer various fantastic staycation options for nature-loving newlyweds.

Wildlife Holidays, Scottish Highlands

The Scottish Highlands are blessed with a diverse selection of wildlife and natural landscapes, and you can get to see some of these for yourself with a Wildlife Holiday at the Aigas Field Centre. Visitors can use the expertise of the Centre’s rangers and tailor their trip to their own interests, whether that’s exploring the coasts, spotting golden eagles, or spending an hour or two in a badger or pine-marten hide.

Badger’s Bower, Buckinghamshire

Situated just an hour from London, Badger’s Bower offers a scenic and tranquil retreat for newlyweds looking to relax and recharge after their big day. Situated on the edge of an ancient woodland and surrounded by bluebells, this handmade tabernacle is the perfect bolthole for nature lovers – you may even spot a badger or two as you relax and enjoy the view from the double-ended bath.

Isle of Rum, Inner Hebrides

Located off the west coast of Scotland, the Isle of Rum is a designated National Nature Reserve and is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including otters, seabirds, red deer and Rum ponies, which are unique to the island. Visit between mid-September and mid-November to witness the annual deer rut where stags compete for females – a truly spectacular sight.

St Davids, Pembrokeshire

With 186 miles of scenic coastal path, Pembrokeshire is a nature-lover’s paradise. Head to St Davids (Britain’s smallest city) and enjoy a sea safari that offers the chance to spot dolphins, porpoises, basking sharks and, if you’re lucky, maybe even orca, minke or pilot whales. Off the coast of Pembrokeshire you’ll also find Skomer Island – a haven for puffins, seals and more.

Oakdown Treehouse, Wiltshire

If you’re looking for something a little different, why not take inspiration from your childhood and spend your honeymoon in a treehouse? This cosy snug in the trees doesn’t skimp on comfort, with a kingsize bed and Egyptian cotton sheets, leather armchairs, a log burner, and a luxurious wet room complete with huge skylight which makes you feel like you’re showering under the trees. You can even order home-grown meat and vegetables to prepare a delicious romantic dinner.

Lake District National Park, Cumbria

The Lake District is renowned for its natural beauty and, with its many lakes and numerous hiking and cycling trails, it’s the perfect destination for couples who love the great outdoors. You could even enhance your stay with a visit to Predator Experience, which offers a range of interactive and fascinating experiences, from hawk walks to a wolf and fox encounter; it’s ideal for anyone with a passion for wildlife.

The New Forest, Hampshire

If reptiles are more your thing, you’ll love a trip to the New Forest in Hampshire. This national park is home to all six species of British reptiles, including the adder, the smooth snake, and the rare sand lizard. You can see all six, plus our native amphibians, at the New Forest Reptile Centre, or keep your eyes peeled on the Reptile Trail – a one-mile walk through reptile-rich woodland.

When it comes to honeymoons for nature lovers, there are some really great options available. But why stop there? Natural elements are a key wedding trend for 2019/20 and it’s easier than ever to incorporate your passion for nature and the great outdoors into the wedding day itself, with fanciful floral displays, plenty of foliage, and maybe even a tree or two.

The venue itself also plays a big part and, with its rustic associations and countryside setting, a barn wedding is a perfect choice for nature lovers. Our barn wedding venue is set in the beautiful Crondon Valley, with stunning views over the Essex countryside, you can be sure that the natural world will play an important part in your big day.
