Ideas For An Autumn Wedding

Does your wedding fall between September and December? If you answered “yes” then here are some ways to make the most of the season!

Decorate the barn

One of the main attractions of barn weddings is the endless options for decorating. The Baronial Hall, our barn wedding venue, is a great example of this. The exposed beams and rare Rosewood Floor make the perfect blank canvas ready for you to personalise. To add an autumnal feel we recommend choosing colours such as dark reds and burnt oranges. Other decorative flairs, like pumpkins and pinecones, can also add a seasonal feeling. Plenty of warm lighting from fairy lights or candles will add a cosy touch to the barn, especially as it will get dark by early evening.

Choosing your flowers

When deciding on the flowers and foliage for your bouquet and decorations think about some autumnal additions. This time of year is less associated with flowers, which tend to be a more summery option, and more associated with greenery; think thistles, foxgloves, pampas grass, fern and ivy. Decorative additions, like berries and dried fruit, also look great. An added bonus is that foliage-heavy arrangements are more affordable than those full of fresh blooms.

Theme your food

Everything at your wedding, including the food on offer, will add to the overall atmosphere of the day. To complement the autumn season you could have a hog roast, which is always popular with guests at our weddings. Carry on the theme through the food offerings with sweet pies for dessert, toffee apples for the kids and cheeseboards, s’mores and warm pretzels for an evening snack.

Use the outside space

Our half-acre private garden is the ideal setting for beautiful wedding photos. Our Essex barn venue sits in a stunning location of the rolling countryside. You can build a photo backdrop, complete with seasonal flowers and foliage, or just utilise the picturesque scenery to capture unforgettable photographs to cherish forever.

Consider your timings carefully

Autumn days mean less natural daylight, so it is important to plan your day accordingly. Starting your ceremony early will ensure the reception and celebrations afterwards are filled with more light. Photographers also hugely rely on daylight, so make sure you discuss timings with them to guarantee the best outcome in your photos.

Use the bridal suite

Crondon Park offers six accommodation options, including the beautiful Granary Bridal Suite. In a discrete location just 30 yards from the barn venue it balances being both secluded and easily accessible. The comfortable suite is the perfect place to stay the night before or after your big day. Containing a four-poster double bed and a double sofa bed the suite is ideal for the bride and bridesmaids to sleep the night before – meaning no rushing on the wedding morning to arrive at the venue for an early ceremony.
