8 Things You Shouldn’t Do Running Up To The Wedding

Common mistakes to avoid when planning your perfect day

From getting a new hairstyle to acting like a bridezilla, here are some common mistakes to avoid in the run up to your wedding.

You’ve been planning your big day for months and now it’s almost here. Ensure all your hard work pays off and you have the day you’ve been dreaming of by avoiding these common mistakes.

Change your hairstyle

No matter how tempted you may be, now is definitely not the time to try out a new hairstyle or colour. No matter how good your hairdresser there is always the chance that it may not turn out as you would like. What’s more, a new haircut may mean that the hairstyle you’ve chosen for the big day is no longer possible. If you’re desperate for a new look try your best to hold on until the wedding is over.

Start a new skincare regime

Similarly, embarking on a new skincare regime or going for a facial shortly before your wedding is a potential disaster waiting to happen, carrying the risk of blemishes, redness and breakouts – not something you want on your wedding day or in your photos!

DIY tanning

Lots of brides want to look suntanned on their wedding day but don’t be tempted to go down the do-it-yourself route with a tanning booth or bottle of fake tan. If you do want to fake it, get your tan applied by a professional a couple of days before the wedding for a streak-free, natural glow. And on the topic of tanning, don’t spend too much time in the sun on the run up to your wedding – the last thing you want is a nasty case of sunburn, or worse, obvious strap marks, spoiling your wedding photographs.

Neglect your partner

Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life and you are utterly consumed with perfecting every tiny detail – we get it! But don’t forget to spend some quality time with the person you’ll be walking down the aisle with. Why not go on one last date as an unmarried couple – this could be a meal in your favourite restaurant or something as simple as a TV and pizza night at home. Just as long as you have some fun and find something to talk about other than last minute wedding arrangements.

Burn the candle at both ends

Whether you’re up until the early hours handcrafting wedding favours, or indulging in some early celebrations, the week running up to your wedding can be exhausting. But it’s important to look after yourself during this period, or you could burn yourself out. Getting too little sleep can affect your skin as well as making you short-tempered and irritable. So, remember to ask for help when you need it and be sure to get plenty of rest.

Be a bridezilla

Being a bride can be very stressful and it’s all too easy to take it out on those closest to you. But try to refrain from making unreasonable demands and acting like a bridezilla. Your friends, family and fiancé will thank you for it – and they’ll still be talking to you once the celebrations are over!

Diet

In the run up to the wedding it can be tempting to try and ditch a few more pounds by dieting or upping your exercise regime. However, with dress fittings having taken place you run the risk of losing too much weight and affecting the fit and look of your dress. Just continue to eat well and healthily, and avoid too much overindulgence, and you’re sure to look fabulous on your big day.

Panic

The last couple of weeks before a wedding can be overwhelming. There are lots of last minute details to finalise and you can feel under pressure to make sure everything runs perfectly on the day. But try not to panic. Trust your vendors and have faith that all your hard work and planning will pay off. Our Essex wedding venue has been holding weddings for more than 20 years so we are experienced in helping couples to manage all those last minute details, as well as calming any potential panics.

And remember, if any small things do go wrong, they probably won’t matter in the grand scheme of things. The important thing is that you are marrying the person you want to spend the rest of your life with – everything else is just window dressing.
